Girl Guides Visit National Museum

Girls with Miss Goosie
Girl Guides posing with masquerade character “Miss Goosie”.

Dr. Skerritt brought the Girl Guides to the museum on Friday, April 26th. The girls toured the new exhibition “Montserrat’s First Peoples—Amerindians.” They learned about Caribbean Indigenous Peoples’ history and culture and their impact on three Montserratian sites: Upper Blakes, Trants, and Valentine Ghaut. They enjoyed learning about Indigenous Peoples’ methods for removing cassava poisons and spent a long time looking at the pottery faces and animal forms in our adorno cabinet.

The girls had fun playing the pan, piano, xylophone, and hoshos in our playable instrument collection. They posed for photos with our full-sized masquerade characters. They learned how windmills worked and explored pre-volcanic and post-volcanic Plymouth in our “Views of Montserrat” exhibit.

We look forward to hosting your class or school group!
