JOB TITLE: Conservation Officer

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

SALARY

  • $90,000 EC Gross per annum on contract for 3 years.
  • A vehicle is provided.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF ROLE

The Montserrat National Trust would like to increase its organizational capacity by the employment of a Conservation Officer to broadly assist in ensuring:

  • The conservation value of the key Protected Areas owned by the Montserrat National Trust.
  • The Trust’s Botanic Garden is managed, maintained and enhanced through effective day to-day management.
  • The delivery of the Trust’s 2021-2026 Strategic Plan and specifically its Strategic Objectives on conserving the flora and fauna of Montserrat.
  • Skills transfer to staff, intern/ school leavers in biodiversity conservation skills.
  • Support to MNT’s organization and administration in the areas of project development and management (e.g. project supervision, monitoring and drafting reports).
  • To interact with the public through a variety of activities including workshops, press releases, social media interactions and radio interviews meetings, and other media activities.

ESSENTIAL

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Botany,
  • Environmental Science management, or related field or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Montserrat’s natural heritage and communities
  • At least two years’ experience of leading and managing teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills applicable to a wide range of audiences.
  • Proven negotiating skills and project writing and management skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills including report writing skills.
  • Proven effective team player.
  • High level of computer literacy in at least the Microsoft Office suite.

DESIRABLE

  • Experience of managing sites for natural and cultural importance.
  • Experience of managing important natural sites with high visitor numbers.
  • Practical experience of managing a variety of Caribbean habitats and species of conservation importance, the threats they face and how to manage those threats.
  • Experience of working with Government Departments.
