From June 11th to August 31st, Montserrat National Trust is hosting a biodiversity exhibition at the Natural History Center in Olveston.
The Montserrat National Trust decided to organise this exhibition to meet its deliverables as part of the two EU BEST Projects: “Building a nursery for endemic and native key species in Montserrat” and “Securing Pockets of Paradise in the Caribbean; embedding capacity for invasive alien species management in UKOT based organisations”. This has been achieved with the collaboration of our partner Waitt Institute through the Blue Halo Initiative.
The Montserrat National Trust is also happy to host two local organisations, Fish n’fins and Montserrat Island Dive Center, to display their work in preserving the marine environment through volunteering actions such as beach cleaning, educational activities with kids etc.
Why is this exhibition important to visit?
Montserrat ecosystem is unique and diverse, and sometimes unnoticed by local and visitors alike. The Exhibition highlights Montserrat’s natural wealth and beauty on land and in the ocean. Furthermore, it underscores the urgent need to raise awareness of the importance of this biodiversity to the island and its population.
What will you get to see?
More than 40 pictures of plants and animals are exhibited including marine species. The selection has been based on our willingness to share to general public, some species that are generally unknown, that are visible only in remote locations or endangered or worth knowing for their conservation value. Videos are also shown to help the visitor to be immersed in the wild world and under water.
This exhibition is also a perfect activity to grasp young people’s interest in local fauna and flora.
